“What the hell am I making?” Jack muttered as he tightened a screw. He tapped the wrench against the machine and chewed the inside of his cheek.

It was entirely possible that the stress of not talking about things to Maddie was getting to him. He hadn't made something this big with no idea what it was in ages.

He rolled out from under the thingamabob and got up, brushing dirty off his jumpsuit. Jack peered at the machine for a bit puzzling it out.

Thearoticly it *should* be able to plug up holes between zones. But it would need a fuckton of energy to do anything larger then a plate sized gap.

“Well it certainly took you long enough,” a dry voice commented.

Jack's gun was out and aiming before he realized it was just his lesion to the order. Mister Corona. Professional dickwad.

“How the hell did you get there?”

“Trade secret. Once you have handed over the Separation Portal your debt to the Order will be paid.”

Jack blinked and shrugged, moving to the side and re holstering his gun. If they wanted an incomplete machine they were welcome to it.

“You'll have to work out a power source yourself,” Jack pointed out as he started for the stairs.

“That is none of your concern. Oh Mister Fenton?”

Jack paused at the foot of the stairs, feeling the hairs on his neck raise. He didn't like the tone right there.

“Yes?”

“You might want to look into finding a new job soon. Can't be a ghost hunter with out anything to hunt.”

Jack whirled around to demand what Corona meant by that but froze. Both Corona and the machine were gone.

This... did not bode well. Though how they planned to get rid of-.

His mind froze in horror as something dawned on him. Danny and Danielle. They were in trouble.

He had to find out what they were planning and he had to find out *now*.

Jack squirmed in his clothes. Wearing something other then his orange suit felt wrong.

Or it was the whole situation.

Either way, once this was over he would never have to deal with these guys ever again. Though why it took them so long to actually come and get their damn weird was beyond him.

Jack opened the door and blinked at the abandoned dirty room. Empty except- ah there was the celler door.

Warily and slowly make his way across the weak looking floor, bend down to pull up on the door, and then walk down the stair case.

Fallow the tunnel, how the heel did no one know about this?, and enter a plain if dim lit used room. and the end tail of a conversation.

"-once the potion is made on this end, the loop will close and the Observant's next stage can- Fenton!"

Jack cleared his throat and held out the bag full of weird carp, "I got your stuff? We even now?"

A cloaked and shadowed person reached out and yanked the bag from jack's fingers, "You're getting closer but not just yet. We'll contact you."

"Riiiight," Jack said slowly edging out of the room, "Hopefully you won't need to."

There was oppressive silence from the other people. Jack decided hell with dignity and turned tail and ran all the way down the tunnel, up the stairs and then out of the house and on to the street.

Okay. This was getting to be the worst year of his life.

And what the fuck was an observant anyway?

Something niggled at the back of Jack's mind after parting with Vlad and Vlad's nephew.

Worked on weaponry, ghost alarm went off *again* (This time Maddie went to check up on it), maddie wonderign around worried but not talking, doing grown up jobs (stupid toliet) all with a growing sense of something being horribly wrong.

He flushed the newly unclogged toliet and grinned, only to have his happy smile disappear as he realised something.

Vlad had a sister yes. But she had died when Vlad and her were kids. There was no possible way she could have had a son. Jack stared blankly at the wall and wondered.

Why had Vlad just lied to him?

Jack stared at the phone. It wasn't even that scary a phone. Had not ghostly evil powers of evil. just a normal old phone.

but it wasn't the phone that was making him squirm. It was who he was planning on calling. Eventually.

Jack beamed and stood up to stretch.

The pre-casting machine bits were done. Now to just cast the spell. He turn the powering up machine on, dug out the words of the spell and started reading it.

Everything was going great, hadn't mispronounced anything. Except his nose was beginning to itch.

And at the last word, Jack sneezed.

There was some sort of noise Jack couldn't describe and then he was flat on his back. He sat up and looked around wildly. nothing looked exploded or miscast. But his body felt funny.

And what was with the sudden urge to eat fish?

Jack grumbled as he stumbled over to the mirror and blinked at his reflection.

"I am going to get yelled at for this." The bright orange anthropomorphic dolphin muttered.

Jack frowned and listlessly poked at his tuna.

Maddie being gone just felt wrong. Like everything was off balanced by a few degrees.

He knew his weaknesses. And tryign to figure out what to do with Dani was one of them. So many questiuon and yet-

Jack didn't want to ask them. The answers might be worse then what he thought up in his head.

Oh, he could tell himself that he was just waiting for Dani to trust him enough but that was false. It was because he *liked* being unaware of the real world problems.

He growled and shook his head to rid himself of the creepy clone army of Fentons from his head. He would. He would just focus on the next prank! Yes.

Now what would be bad enough to be worth Lancer flirting and also be unepected?

He droppedh is fork and sat up striaght as an idea tackled him and then punched him i nthe face with a stop sign.

Lancer knew Jack as a scientist. So using magic to prank Lancer would be a complete shock.

He shot out of his chair and dashed to the computer. It was time for *research*!
